Reality Bites

In the latter half of 2012, I had an email from the extremely cool Wiz Green. Would I be willing to write a biographical piece about my rise from drug addict on the verge of needing a liver transplant to the Queen of Steam (a friend's words, not mine!)?

It took me about 2.5 seconds to say yes and hit the reply button

This week sees the launch of that book, a collection of stories from various authors who've been through something and managed, against all adversity, to rise through it.

Writing the piece was amazingly cathartic and a chance for me to gather my thoughts of that period of my life. As you know, I have no qualms about talking about my addictions. If I can stop even one person from making the same mistakes that I did, then my work is done. If I can help one person realise that there's life outside of that cycle, then I'm happy. And if there's anyone reading this blog who needs someone to listen to, then just drop me a line. I promise not to judge. Just to listen and to offer a shoulder. I know what it's like. I've been in that place where no one would listen. I've had the times when people believe you can just snap out of it. And it's not pleasant. In fact, it's pretty damn horrific. It can be crushing and soul destroying. It can take away your passion and your drive. It can push you to the brink.

If you want to join in the launch, you're more than welcome to. It's being held online and is free to come and join. It's this Saturday, so get yourselves signed up and I'll see you there!
